ABOUT
THE WORK
I have worked
in the field of visual art for nearly 20 years. In 2007 I rented
downtown studio space in Northfield, Minnesota. This is my
working studio, open to the public, as well as exhibit space for my
work. It is important to me to invite the public in, not only for
my own sales, but to educate and communicate with the wider community.
During visits
to Mexico I am greatly moved by the power and spirit found in the
Huichol and Oaxacan Indian art work. Their use of color and
pattern creates in me a passion to produce. The span of topics
and formats in my work are expressed by a mix of media and powerful
color.
Ideas for the
art come from things that interest me, from diversity of people and
cultures to restoring native prairie. The interplay of color and
pattern drive the art, and I constantly search for new ways to combine
these elements to tell a story. The element that unifies my work
is bold color.
